About
About the Athanasius Initiative
The Athanasius Initiative is an independent digital resource dedicated to Scripture, the Church Fathers, theology, history, and the spiritual heritage of the Oriental Orthodox tradition.
Independently operated
The Athanasius Initiative does not officially represent, and does not claim to speak for, any Oriental Orthodox patriarchate, diocese, bishop, church, or ecclesiastical institution. Any official ecclesiastical affiliation will be stated explicitly here if it is established in the future.
Editorial care
Scripture, primary-source quotation, scholarly interpretation, and editorial commentary are always visually and textually distinguished. Nothing on this site is presented as a patristic quotation unless it is drawn from a published translation with its source recorded.
Scope
The library gives particular attention to the Alexandrian and wider Oriental Orthodox heritage — Coptic, Syriac, Armenian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Malankara — while remaining open to the whole patristic inheritance. Ancient figures are described in historically careful terms rather than assigned to modern denominational categories.
